: Roll bar
MonteMan454 Jul 25th, 05, 6:26 PM Hello guys,
What is a good distance for the top of the main hoop to the headliner? 1 inch? I am making sure it is less than 6 inches from my head with helmet on.
Thanks
Kris
EMcIllece Jul 25th, 05, 6:44 PM NHRA rules state one inch from top of roll bar to roof. At least the last time I checked.

You wouldn't happen to know the correct distance for the crossbrace and the rear struts? Perhaps even better I could find a link to these details.
I tried to find this info on the net and no luck. It is also weird that they never state in the instructions that for the bar to be legal in full framed cars the roll bar must be welded to the frame. I also read several mag articles and this isn't mentioned either.
Thanks again,

It is in the NHRA rule book. But you would think the instructions would include what is needed for compliance. I'd bet well over 90% of there sales need to comply. NHRA use to have the roll bar rules on their site, but they were very hard to find. The last time I looked I couldn't find them at all.
forcd ind Jul 25th, 05, 10:50 PM pretty much if its a full frame car, the roll cage has to weld to the frame
if the frame is inside of the driver, it needs a rocker bar(outside the driver)
subframe cars use floor plates, and rocker bar-when i had my car certified, i dont think the guy really knew the rules, he questioned a couple things, and when i explained to him thats how i was taught in welding school, he said ok
(i guess he never welded b4)he was mainly concerned about tube thickness
EMcIllece Jul 27th, 05, 11:13 PM Sorry, don't know the NHRA rules very well. I run at an IHRA track. Scour the web, the NHRA rules are posted, found them once, saved them to hard drive, formated computer.....

This old, NHRA rules, is a few yrs old. http://members.tripod.com/MY5LTR/NHRArules.html
That happened to me once to, now I back up everything.
Pat Kelley Jul 28th, 05, 10:51 AM That looks right. Section 4.10. The only change I'm aware of is the change to 11.50 sec from 11.99 sec for requiring a roll bar.
To add to that, a crossbar is required for seat bracing and harrness attachment. Swing out bar permitted. This is from the 2005 NHRA rule book.
EMcIllece Jul 28th, 05, 5:22 PM Yeah, that's the one. Thanks for the link.
