Recently my hot rod decided to burn to the ground. I lost everything! I have already stripped it out and started sanding it but I dont know what kind of primer I should use. I would like to use some regular old primer but I heard you get a lot of surface rust that way. So what should I use? Also should I go ahead and paint the floor pans the same as the car or use undercoating or just leave it primered? Also how easy is it to patch the 1/4 panels where they usaully rust(around the lip of the fender well)? I am dreading to see what lies beneth the vinyl top. Would it be easier to cut out the old panel and roof and add a new ones or just weld in some metal plates? Sorry if I sound stupid but I am just trying to learn. I am only 17 and on a low budget so lets be reasonable about these suggestions.

Sand to bare metal clean and spray 3 to 4 coats of epoxy primer. Then spray the same amount of acrlic urathane primer. This will seal the metal in very well.Use epoxy primer on all metal. You can under coat, or paint it's in your preferance. I choose paint, Under coat is nasty. It holds moisture.

Rot around the wheel lip can't reall
y be repaired to lasting standards. I suggest replacement. As far as under the top but weld in some solid panels "fully welded" should do the trick.
