Finally getting around to installing a 305 into my '65 4dr 300 deluxe. The car has what appears to be the original 194 cubic inch 6, it appears to have been rebuilt at one time. Im having problems ID'ing it. Stamped by the distributor stand are the letters "TF", I can't find this code in any manual. Is it possibly something else? Hoping someone can help me out. I'd like to sell the engine as it runs great but I want to be sure Im advertising it correctly.
Many thanks people.

It appears to be a truck motor either a 230 or 250 depending on year. What is the date code on the block?
Year.........Model......Code Size HP Tranny Carb
1966 Chevrolet Truck TF 230 140 Manual 1bbl
1967 Chevrolet Truck TF 250 155 Manual 1bbl
1968 Chevrolet Truck TF 250 155 Manual 1bbl

I'm showing the TF code as being used on Chevy trucks. For '66 it stood for a 230; '67/'68 it was for a 250. I am assuming that they are for the light duty C10 - C30 ( & K10 - K20 4wd) models, but perhaps it also could be for the G-vans (Chevyvan 90 & 108) or the P-vans (Step Vans).
Here's a link to http://www.inliners.org/ where they have a database of casting numbers and such for early and late Chevy inline sixes. Check it out and you'll probably find what you need. The 194s are a little weak, but I wouldn't mind the small chamber heads from one to raise the compression on my 250.
Ha, I should have known that Philip beat me to it! He knows a lot of stuff about engine #s and casting #s.

Thanks guys, I really thought it was a 194. Where is the date code located on the sixes?

I think it is on the bellhousing flange like the V8's.

It's on the flat by the distributor.
