I used a 3" cutoff wheel on a air grinder. Wasn't too hard to cut. I filled in the hole with epoxy & repainted the column.

thats exactley what i did...chopped it flat and put a lil backing metal in and epoxied it...seems to have worked great, one thing you wanna watch out for, i wanted the old hole as far to the bottom out of sight as i could...so i turned the column and luckily just put a couple small tack welds near the lowest bearing, well, turns out thats the wrong position if you want your wheel lock and (i think) accessory key position to work

Grind it off, get a sheet of .030 shim stock and cut to wrap around the column. Hold it in place with hose clamps and then weld the seem . Grind smooth .remove the clamps and repaint.

I left mine just the way it came, just pulled the shifter arm. Some day. just for the heck of it, Imay actually reconnect the column shifter. One thing though, I would never consider getting rid of my bench seat - that big ole seat is as comfy as can be- like sitting on the couch on the living room.

I got a "bell" without the hump from a "floor shifter" car from a TC member for $15. Got both pieces powder-coated and they look great.
