: Passenger Rear View Mirror

I purchased a rear view mirror for my 70 SS. The kit was shipped without a template for drilling the holes in the door.

Are the holes a mirror image of the driver's side, or is there a separate template for the passenger side mirror.

Thanks

Ralph70SS,

Don't install the passenger side mirror using the same dimensions as the drivers side mirror. Sit in the drivers seat and have someone hold the mirror in place so you can see out of it.

Trust me, I know what I’m talking about http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

I was told that for 70-72 that you DO use the driver door as a template for the passenger door. Can anyone with an original passenger side mirror clear this up?

I used the template, BUT, used the repro right side mirror. This mirror allows more of a pivot towards the passenger side window
allowing the driver to see a wider field. Works fine.

Jason,

I purchased a reproduction mirror for the passenger side door from Ground Up. I assumed that I could mount the mirror on the passenger door at the same location as the drivers door. BIG MISTAKE! I couldn’t rotate the mirror inward enough to see out of it while sitting in the drivers seat. I relocated the mirror forward as much as I could while still concealing the holes I drilled at my first attempt. Although better I still can’t see out of the mirror unless I do a little Detroit lean. I would suggest having someone hold the mirror while you sit in the drivers seat to get the proper location. You may want to check with MalibuJerry to see where he bought his mirror. Sounds like his mirror has more pivot than the one I bought.

Good luck,
Bubba

I bought mine from NPD. It's on page 111 of the current catalog. The stock # is C-10185-5A. The "center pivot" is off center towards the right side (facing the mirror) allowing the mirror to be faced more toward the passenger side window. Hope this helps.

My mirror also has an off centered pivot (right side mirror) but it didn’t have enough swivel to be mounted at the same location as the drivers side. I think not all mirrors are created equally. As much as I like to support the boards sponsor I think I’d buy my next mirror at NPD.
