: Time to try the 1/4 in the 498 Nova
Ron454 Jul 21st, 05, 2:04 AM We have a Northwest Pro Street Association race here in Portland this Sat. I plan to run in the 10.50 index class just for fun. I'll have to figure out where to lift.....
Been doing some rough calculations, and at 130mph, with 29" tires and the 4.10's assuming 10% converter slip (a guess, it's pretty tight), I should be right at 6700-6900 through the lights. MPH is a guess of course, and assumes a 24mph increase from the 1/8 to 1/4. That might be conservative, but then Novas aren't the most aerodynamic cars around. Ok, they are bricks with wheels.......
My engine builder thinks 7000 will be ok.
I will try a full on run first for a baseline, then figure out how to get to the 10.50 index.
Wish me luck!

396-375 Jul 21st, 05, 5:19 AM Ron,
What about some video!!!!!
BillsCamino Jul 21st, 05, 6:17 AM Sounds about right, Ron.
With a 30" tire and 3.73 gear, I'm around 6100 rpm at the lights. I gain almost 27 mph on the back half of the track with my "brick". ;)
In fact, I talked with ATI just yesterday. They strongly suggest a 4.10 gear...
Bob West Jul 21st, 05, 7:22 AM If a Nova is a brick on wheels, what is a Chevelle? 5-600lbs heavier and even less aerodynamic.

A bigger brick...............uh, ten thirties Ron?
Ron454 Jul 21st, 05, 11:46 AM I think it ought to go 10.3.
And by Brick, I meant compared to an early Camaro. As for Chevelles, at least the 66-72 had some curves!
Your Chevelle is beautiful btw Bob.
A video would be nice, but I don't think any of my buddies will be there to shoot one. Someday. I'd like to see one myself.

TWC Jul 21st, 05, 11:58 AM with 29.5 M/T's and 4.10's I pass thru the traps @ 7400 RPM. 133 MPH I'm gaining 26 MPH in the second 1/8th.
Harold Sutton Jul 21st, 05, 2:22 PM with 29.5 M/T's and 4.10's I pass thru the traps @ 7400 RPM. 133 MPH I'm gaining 26 MPH in the second 1/8th. TWC, You should only be running about 6350 RPM at 133 MPH. Your converter isn't doing it's job. A thousand slippage is too much. What type and brand is it? My son's nitrous car was slipping that bad with the 9" converter in it. He now has a nitrous compatable 10" and the only goes through at 6900 RPM and is running 156.5 MPH where it was running 147.6 with the looser converters @ 7800 RPM. Call ATI and give them specs. that are a little optimistic on the horsepower and you won't believe the difference. By the way for everybody, aerodynamically, the older Camaros aren't much better than the Chevelles. The mid to late eighties are real slick, even better than the last generation of Camaros numbers.
jbird Jul 21st, 05, 4:00 PM A friend with a 3400lb '68 camaro with a 489 gains about 24 MPH. He has 28" tires, 4.88 gears and crossed the line at about 7900! This is obvioulsly not a pump gas street motor, was built to run 1/8th mile with nitrous on street tires. A little too much gear for the 1/4 and no way he could spray it!
