I am rebuilding the front suspension on my 68 SS. When I tried to reinstall the lower ball joints, the new ones seem to be too small in diameter to seat in the control arm. The hold ones were in there tight, but the new ones won't snug up into the hole. Any suggestions? Do they make oversized ball joints? If I put a weld onto the joint and control arm, will that be ok?

How did you remove the old ones? If they were pressed out the hole really shouldn't have changed much in diameter. If you beat them out and cocked it in the process you could have enlarged the hole. You're positive you have the right ball joint?
Some people have tack welded them in but I have no experience doing that. Being that the spring pushes the control arm down and the tire/wheel is pushing the spindle up it's not likely to come apart but like I said I have no experience.

I have seen where the looseness has caused them to crack out around the flange
this happened on one that I did in my teens that had the problem where it was loose
a year later it flunked inspection cause the joint was loose in the arm
so when I took it apart - it was not pretty
as for welding - I've never done that
I have always just replaced the control arm

What brand are they? The latest offerings by moog have a "T" following the part number. These are supposed to be a "problem solver" they have a seration in the area where the ball joint fits in the arm.I just used a set the other day (non chevelle but GM anyway) and they fit tight.
