have a 1979 305 block in a 1965 malibu and have the valve covers with no hole for the pcv valve to install but the valve is coming from behind the carb,can i connect the hose from the pcv valve or do i need to get a valve cover with a hole and what side do i install, driver side or passanger side,and how do i install. thanks john.

Get a valve cover with a hole, You can mount that valve cover on either side, which ever side is easiest for the hose. But you'll see most of them mounted on the pass. rear side of engine

Some valve covers have a hole that can be punched out, or you can drill your own hole and install a grommet in it for the pcv valve, you'll need a baffle too, some grommets are made with baffles.
