recently installed a 12 bolt rear end out of a 67' chevelle posi w 4.10's ,into my 68' el camino .Orignally had 3.08's, open leg. My question is when I turn
to the left i hear a clanking type ratcheting sound but when i straighten no more sound. Is this normal or sound like rebuild time. The rearend had been
sitting a long while but all gears and axles look good.

Sounds like you need to add a bottle of posi additive to your oil. Should cure it.

Is it a clutch type posi or a "locker"? Don't know if any Chevys came with lockers, but they make a slight ratcheting noise sometimes when you turn.

Olle- yes it is a clutch type posi . some have said this is normal and others say it
isn't. This is the first time i driven the car with a posi so that is why i am asking.

thanks, edcab

It is normal. Change the oil and put in a bottle of the additive and it should be fine. Use GM or Ford additive, not the auto parts store stuff.
