just got back from a auto glass shop ,5 months ago they resealed the back glass ,so after getting some advice from this form ,i took the car up to them to put the chrome on for me , well they tried ,they had no luck either ,they said i needed bigger clips than the ones on now. but to put new ones on they said that they will have to take the glass back out, i would like to know if anyone has had the same problem, and could i put new clips on myself without removing the glass ????? the car is a 67 coup

There is no reason to have to remove the glass to replace the clips unless they have been mostly covered with sealant by someone in the past or the most recent sealing job. The clips slide down over a small stud and are relatively easy to remove...unless they are buried in uretane sealer. Even then, I can't imagine why you would have to remove the glass. It would just make them more difficult to remove.

The clips on my 65 slid on with the tap of a tack hammer and a wooden block. The clips had a sring tension back on the clips. I removed some of the clips with a very small flat screw driver. Used enough preasure to relieve the tention and used a pair of needle nose to pull up. Be carefull not to chip the glass and paint. The front glass is the most prone to crack. The back takes more to crack. Mine were not covered with sealer. Made it alot easier.

They may be correct in pulling the glass. The darn studs may have been broken off and the clips were screwed on! On the windshield of a 65 they are screwed on from the factory on the posts.

They may have used too thick a butyl tape and the glass is too high. Sight across the edge of the glass and see if the clips are high enough. The "hook" that grabs the moulding should be above the glass about an eigth inch. If it is not, you will need to change the clips or the height of the glass. I have to say the '66-'67 coupe rear glass mouldings are a real mutha to install under perfect conditions.

This is why all mouldings should be trial fit before glass is installed.

Were the clips replaced? The 66-67 coupe uses unique tall clips for the rear glass. My moulding is removed on my 66 and the clips are 1/2" higher than the glass. I measured the replacement clips I have and they measure .910" You can get the replacement clips from places like Year One for $7.95. set of 25.
Here is a link to Year One on line search part# A927525 then click on the part number for a visual representation http://www.yearone.com/

Keith. I think 66 and 67 are the same in this.
The rear clips of my 66 2d HT coupe are taller than the clips of the windshield. The outside of the (rear) glass should be flush with the center of the the heads of the studs.

Yes that Year One part number A927525 is the correct height.I would think any vendor selling clips listed as specific to 66-67 rear only would be the same.
