Anyone have trouble finding after market wheel studs that fit the holes in a stock 12 bolt axle? I am not sure of the year of my rear but the holes in my axle are too small for any of the aftermarket studs.

Anyone run into this before?

I just changed axles in my 67 12 bolt and the new Mosers had the same size hole as the stock axles. What are you trying to put in? I found a pretty good selection at the local parts store in my home town and we are like small town hicksville. I needed longer studs for my Americans so I took the old one with me and told him what I wanted. If you are going larger diameter like 1/2" you will have to pull the axles and bore the holes to a larger diameter. I had to do this in a 66 I had to run 1/2" studs for trick rims and slicks. Make sure you get the exact diameter it needs to be from the GM service manual, or someone who knows what it should be. I did this a long time ago and I have slept since then. I know that if the hole is too small you'll break the axle putting in the stud, too big and the stud will wollow its way out and ruin the axle. its pretty tight tolerance. Hope this helps.

You should be able to find 7/16 3" studs with a knurl on them,,,just pull them in place with an old stock lugnut. I have them in my original axles with c clips. Like said before, if you go up to 1/2" you will have to have the holes drilled out.

Use fully threaded 1/2X20 cap screws, they are available as long as you would like.

Imho, do yourself a favor and have somebody like Mosers redrill everything to 1/2" so you can run 1/2" x however long you want Grade-8 full thread bolts!!

Stronger is why..

And yes, a good Parts Store should have a drawer or a cabinet full of different sized ones if you still want stock type but longer??

thanks guys.

I'm using 7/16 long studs. The holes in my axles are .440" the smallest knurl I could find for long studs is .486" form ARP. I thought maybe i could just hammer them in but they were too big. so I drilled the axles out a bit and hammered them in. they seem pretty snug so I hope that does the trick.

I to drilled out my axles to run the 3" 7/16 studs and it worked fine, till the axle bent and i upgraded. about 2 years they worked though.

I just feel safer with my 1/2'ers plus they look better, not a big deal but hey. i have to runstuds on my street wheels to and they stick out a ways so looks matter a bit.
