I seem to recall someone in this forum has used one of these transmissions, out of, I believe a 82-87 Chevy/GMC truck. Whoever it is/was, I'd like to "pick your brain" on the subject.

Wade,
Dont know what you need to know, but I had one in a 84 Chevy stepside pickup once. It was ok, but a lot of spread between gears. Basically a 3 speed with an overdrive 4th gear.

It's actually a MOPAR tranny that has been switched at the factory so that third gear is OD and forth is 1 to 1!!

It should be a 3.07 first gear ratio tranny and so is weak, like 275 t weak..

PS., fwiw, I had a MOPAR A833 4-speed out of my little Brothers '70-1/2, 340 TA 6-Pack and thought of keeping it for my 496 motor but sold it last spring to a MOPAR guy. So I really looked into this deeeeeep before selling it!!

I am in the middle of an install myself in a 72. Be happy to talk. From what I have read it is an excellent trans for a cruiser. Shifters are the problem. They are not available. The gear spread is wide and with the 3.09 first gear I will run a 2.73 out back. .71 Overdrive will be fine cruising at 70. My engine is totally stock and I have no plans to run it at the track. My goal is 20+mpg...
