Hi, I was wondering if anyone has ever built a body dolly, with wheels to move around the body of the car, I plan on pulling the frame, and want to rest the body on something moveable, I was thinking of making it out of wood, or welding something up, any ideas/designs/pics would be appreciated, Thanks

I have the same plans in the works but haven't laid out the design yet other than in my head. I am basing my ideas off of what I saw in Sloan's restoration pages.

The key for my design is going to be adjustability and storage. I don't want to destroy it when I am done and I don't want to lock the design to my specific bolt locations. I am currently considering a sliding design...one square bottom assembly which allows for a sliding adjustment along the length of the car...like those foldup cherry pickers that have adjustable leg lenghts. Then sliding vertical peices that will slide crosscar on the moving peices of the lower frame. I also want to allow the height of the vertical peices to be adjustable. All of it will have to easily tear down into small storable peices too. Balance and caster strength are things to consider plus a design that allows easy dissasembly and reassembly of the body to frame is critical as well. My thoughts on that were to design a leg support that would bolt to the rear body mounts after a cherry picker or chainfalls have lifted it high ebough to bolt between the frame and the body. Then I could rest the rear on these legs and raise the front. With the front in the air and the rear supported by the legs I could slide the frame out from underneath the body through side access. Then I could roll the jig underneath and bolt it up...then just remove the leg supports and all set. I think designing in adjustability at all points will allow tolerancing to be extremely loose. Of course there is always the school of thought that the adjustability design would be wasted on a onetime use. Very true but I always re-use things. Good luck and let us see what you come up with...I'll do the same but won't be doing it for a few months. I am a CAD expert by trade though so when I complete mine I will be more than happy to share manufacturing quality drawings with everyone.....again, not until winter or the new year though.

Hey I like your Idea, I'm looking to build something which I can later destroy and dispose of because I'm working with very little room, I want to build one similar to this:
