Title says it all whenever I get on it it starts to pop or backfire through the carb. Is this a condition of too much fuel or too little? Or is it timing related. Car seems to run pretty well if I am cruising on the highway but if I try to stomp it, it pops. Low speed cruising it also feels like it is missing or stumbling on initial take-off. So I have to baby the throttle some. The carb is an edelbrock 600 cfm manual choke. Intake is a performer eps. Distributor is an hei with a summit coil, and aftermarket wires. Any help is appreciated.

Just some causes here.

Crossed plug wires.
Retarded timing
Flat cam lobe (or something along those lines)

I did have a bad coil do this once. (can't explain that one)

I'd say it was running a little lean.
