I was going to redo the trunk paint in my 66, after looking I am wondering about the difference in paints.

There is the Tempo brand paint that goes for $11.00 a can, this is sold at the automotive paint store.

I also found the Dupli-color brand paint at just about every auto parts store, and it goes for $5.00 a can.

Is there that much difference in the quality of the paint? I also know you can get the GM brand paint from several of the aftermarket parts dealers. Anyone have any experience with the different brands?

I used the Dupli Color and I think it took about 5 cans to do my trunk. I bought the first two from an after market Chevelle parts place for $12.00 a can!!!!! Then I found the same paint at Autozone for $4.99 a can. I used a trunk mat and a matching spare tire cover and it looks good but the restoration purists would probably have a problem with it not being "correct".......Oh Well! :rolleyes:

I've always used the GM cans. I believe you get better coverage and a more "original" color match.

I called Superior and they said $10.81 a can, must buy a min of 6 cans.
I also called Westfall-Odell, it gets better, $12.00 a can must buy a min of a case,(12 cans).
I called Morse, the nimrod there told me they don't make it anymore, and to call Overland auto paint. I guess for now I will try the Dupli-color in an out of the way spot ans see how it looks.

Call Steve's Camaros at 650-873-1890 Along with Camaros and Firebirds Steve carries '64-'72 Chevelle and El Camino parts. I got 2 can's of the GM stuff from him a couple years ago.
