: Hedman Elite headers on BB
Johnny O Jul 15th, 05, 6:45 AM Is anyone running these on a Chevelle?? I bought a set, used but still brand new, never on a running engine. They have been sitting in my garage for 4 years now, and now that Im doing my stroker motor, I figured maybe I'll try them, the old ones are pretty ratty looking. The Elite headers have a full flange, not the single flanges like my current headers. I already noticed that the pass. side flange has to be modified, it hits the #2 spark plug. Makes me wonder how the rest of the swap will fit. This is on a 71 Chevelle. Any comments?? Thanks, John

Dwayne Martin Jul 15th, 05, 9:05 AM Bob,
I just installed a set of the hedman elite full length headers on my 71 SS454 car. I used ARP head bolts on my engine so I ended up having to grind about an 1/8" off of the header flange around these bolts so that they would fit. We test fitted the headers and marked the areas with a pencil that needed to be grinded. Other than this the headers fit pretty good. The 3/8 thick flange, 14 gauge tubes and coating makes for a nice set of headers.
GRN69CHV Jul 15th, 05, 9:12 AM I have the 1-3/4" Elite on my '69 w/ the 408BBC. Fit was great, no interference, denting, etc.. Think they also have these in 2" primary tube size also, can't comment on fit for the larger tube, no firsthand knowledge. One thing I do like is the heavy gauge tubing. Under hood, both sound and heat are controlled fairly well. One disadvantage is the heavy wall tubing cuts down the ID some and makes for a somewhat heavy constrctuction, if all out performance is your priority, other brands may be beeter for you, but for looks and longevity, I like the Elite headers. I used the Elite on my last car, for me it was an easy choice with this car.
4FTTY4 Jul 16th, 05, 1:46 AM I have the shorties on my 70. The passenger side fits great, but one of the tubes on the driver side hits the cross member. Its not enough to keep from bolting them up, but i think i may have to crease the tube to keep them from rattling later.
Johnny O Jul 16th, 05, 8:50 PM Thanks guys.....Bob and Dwayne, good point about the head bolts. Im using ARP bolts also, so I'll install the headers on the stand and see how much grinding I'll have. Im not worried about a little grinding before installation, my worries are how they will fit once they're in the car. But Dwayne, if they fit your 71 OK, mine shouldnt be any different.
