Well I've decided on a set of intro rodder 17" wheels for my wagon. I know for the rear I want 17X8 W/ 5" of backspacing............but do I want the same for the front...........or should I go with a 7" rim in the front?

If so what backspacing should I get? 4.5?

Thinking of 255/40's in the rear and 235/40's in the front......... still undecided for the most part though.

Car will ride on 1.5" drop springs in the rear and 1.8" in the front.

I've been over to Intro's showroom, and he knows his stuff. In my opinion a 7" in the front will fit and look better with no rubbing issues. He has done quite a few 64/65 Chevelles and he knows what backspacing to run.

I'm kinda in the same situation that you are in...
i've got a 70 that i would like to put 17x8's on all around, but will they fit with 4" backspacing? and they come as a set of four so will they rub in the front.... what is the minimum and maximum backspacing you could have with these?
thanks alot

Dirtrocker, yes you can easily fit 17x8's on the front. 17x7's will work too, obviously.

454chevelless,17x8's w/4" backspace will be marginal on either end.

http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33229 This is an amazing guide to what will or will not fit but only if you take the time to read it.

"454chevelless,17x8's w/4" backspace will be marginal on either end."
meaning there will be plenty of space?
if so then what about 9.5" wides in back?
thanks alot

Marginal in this case means get another wheel with more backspacing.

more backspacing would push the inside of the wheel farther inside... is this correct? please read your last post again, i'm not sure that you wrote what you meant to. sorry if i'm wrong though.
thanks alot

Ok,no problem. 17x8 wheels with only 4" backspace on your car will have the tires rubbing the outer fender lips. So,you want to move the wheel center to the outside, which will move the inner tire sidewall closer to the frame, centering the tire & wheel in the wheelwell. Make more sense, now?
