Hi guys. Anyone out there know how to properly use a Sun VAT-60? I just picked up a used one, and I'm not sure if it isn't working properly or I am using it incorrectly. I've used the VAT-40 plenty, but this is a bit different. I've been looking online to see if I could find a manual or tech help, but so far nothing. Thanks in advance for any help.

It operates the same way as the VAT-40. Hook up your big cables and attach the amp probe to the negative cable for battery test or attach to the vehicle ground cable for charging/starter draw test. Crank down the carbon pile to half of the CCA for the battery in question. I draw charging systems to max load for about 1 second for peak output test.

Thanks Dennis, that's what I thought. I'm gonna look at it again tomorrow, but I think this unit isn't functioning right. Hope I'm wrong...

I think this thing is working OK, but it is a bit different than the VAT-40. This thing has a digital readout, and some of the tests are done automatically by the machine. The readouts I get are a bit confusing, and the machine beeps at me sometimes, I believe it is part of the automatic testing. I really need a manual for this, or someone who has one that can walk me through it. The VAT-40 is a very simple machine, this 60 is confusing! This thing also has some ignition leads and an RPM pickup. I believe Snap-On bought Sun, so I'm gonna try calling them to see if they have a manual; but it's a long shot.

OK, I got a manual, believe it or not. This machine seems to have some kind of short or something, I got it to work a couple of times but most of the time it just reads gibberish. Now I need to get a hold of the seller (eBay purchase), and see what we can do... Hope for the best.

Hobart do you want to sell me a copy of that vat-60 manual. I just got one and you are right it is a lot differene than the older Vat40. Or where did you find the manual.

Hi guys. I just noticed this post now, I haven't logged-in for awhile. I got rid of that VVAT-60 back in 2005, and the manual went with it. I have no idea where I even got the manual, sorry.

If you call Snap On customer service they have the ability to fax or email you a manual. But they will probably need an actual Part number off the unit. Their number is 877-762-7762.
