: Would you guys drive this???
ROBC Jul 13th, 05, 1:23 PM Here is a 70 ss 4x4. I think it's a real SS and I also think I would drive it. After I took the nasty lookin front bumper off.

Byfield Jul 13th, 05, 1:26 PM I have too many teeth and too few DUI's to drive something like that
Midnight Marauder Jul 13th, 05, 1:26 PM I wouldnt drive it and that guy should be beaten with a wet cane....and then rolled in ticks.
1badss396 Jul 13th, 05, 1:27 PM Now thats a real REDNECK SS
MedicTed Jul 13th, 05, 2:30 PM After I took the nasty lookin front bumper off.
I don't remember the exact measurement, but in PA the bumper must only be so many inches off of the ground. It's probably needed to pass inspection, at least here.
Thad Jul 13th, 05, 2:43 PM Might keep an eye on that one.
It's only about 2 hours from home, and if you could make a car of it, and sell the 4x4 gear, it might be worth the final price.
thunderstruck507 Jul 13th, 05, 2:46 PM I would...after I pulled the body off that I would send the chassis through the builders living room

What do you think his reserve is. I am guessing 5-6 grand

Heck no, sell it, that's what the owner did with this Dodge running gear.

This 70 is now back on a 70 frame and well on it's way to being restored.
thunderstruck507 Jul 13th, 05, 2:57 PM Good point, but it's still sad to see them that way...not quite as bad as the new trend of lifting them so 24" spinner rims will clear (at least 4x4 can be used for offroading...theoretically)
72silverchevelle Jul 13th, 05, 4:03 PM Why did they do that to an SS. Why not a Malibu or something like that?
quikss Jul 13th, 05, 4:14 PM Why did they do that to an SS. Why not a Malibu or something like that?
How would that make it any better?
In your eyes, is my malibu inferior to a "real" SS?
Besides with all the talk about it being worth nothing without all the documents to prove it, whats the diffrence? Who's to say this isn't a malibu with SS badges on it. Or a "clone"?

I dont think cloning was big in the late 80's when the car was built. I really believe it's a real SS but with no docs. It still could have a build sheet somewhere though.
I would love to have that thing. Just think of all the people that would give you crap for ruining a chevelle and not knowing when it was built you could buy a nice chevelle for $12-$1500.00.
nebula72 Jul 13th, 05, 4:46 PM I dont know... look at the door panel emblems.. they say SS396. Didnt 70s say "SS"? I think those are 69 emblems. Makes me suspect that this could be a butcherd malibu..
thunderstruck507 Jul 13th, 05, 4:54 PM maybe it was an early built 70 and they used left over 69 emblems?
67RAT Jul 13th, 05, 4:57 PM THIS IS POOR TASTE AT ITS WORST!!!!!!!!!!-lots of work to build somthing so very stupid---I like 4x4s-love chevelles-- but not mixed-to me its a
SH-TPILE!!!! JUNK I SAY!! JUNK!!!!!----we all know that thing is pieced together, the body it most likely so screwed up from the swap---how stupid can one be?---most likely worth next to nothing as a hole----parts? worth much more---67rat
undee70ss Jul 13th, 05, 5:07 PM Why did they do that to an SS. Why not a Malibu or something like that?
At one time SS's wern't worth anywhere what they are worth today and they were plentiful. From the pics it does have the round style gauges but can't tell if there idiot lights or gauges.
Derek69SS Jul 13th, 05, 5:09 PM In your eyes, is my malibu inferior to a "real" SS?
All else being equal, yes an SS is superior to a Malibu.

They do look like '69 emblems... and the pattern on the seats isn't right either, it also has the amber front signal lenses. With the availability and cheapness of a 70 SS at that time, I wouldn't say anything is conclusive. Maybe he built it with an SS parts car, or maybe it's an SS and he had a malibu parts-car... without documentation, who knows???
Dean Jul 13th, 05, 6:02 PM Guess he did it HIS way Too bad he didn't get our aproval first :)
Different strokes for different folks
Midnight Marauder Jul 13th, 05, 6:05 PM Guess he did it HIS way Too bad he didn't get our aproval first :)
Exactly. You dont run your plans by TC and your just playing with fire. :D
God forbid you build it the way you want AND then use your buffed, large foreheaded, saggy boobed wife to advertise it.......
roll that builder in tics and lock him in a dark basement.
:)
BlueSS454 Jul 13th, 05, 8:24 PM If I had the money right now I would buy it and drop the body right back on the spare rolling 70 frame I have in the back yard :) It's nothing that can't be corrected and look at it this way, you could have a big block Chevelle...cheap. I also seriously doubt it is a real SS. There are too many things incorrect on it.
Jim Mac Jul 13th, 05, 9:08 PM theres a guy in town(tucson) who built a 70 camaro like that put the body on a blazer frame with a big block, you either love it or hate it personally I like it and the chevelle too. back in the 80's I traded for a 70 el caminlo project, that was converted to a 4x4 with 35's kinda cool but never did get it running. Jim
Mali Blu Jul 13th, 05, 9:52 PM WOW. My wife told me just last night I ought to do that with mine. How spooky.
I showed it to her and she liked it. Im going to check to make sure she has all her teeth tonight while she sleeps.
I live in a double wide trailer, but thats just REDICULOUS!!
1970SS396&1967 Jul 14th, 05, 3:06 AM Oh yea,I'd drive it......off the nearest cliff
yeah right if that guy gave someone the keys and said take her for a spin you wouldn't? i would never do that to a chevelle or anything. if he came to my house saying i could drive it up the creek 4 wheeling thats next to my place i'd be in that thing quicker than you could say TEAM CHEVELLE. sorry guys but the damage is done so i say have fun with it a week or 2 than remove the body if it were given to me or bought real cheap
Andy69 Jul 14th, 05, 9:12 AM Doing that with a car was big back in the 80s. I remember there were usually quite a few of them for sale in the auto trader magazines. Thought it was interesting but even then I wasn't sure why anyone would ruin a perfectly good car.
