anybody familiar with firewire, IEEE 1394 digital video etc? I have a video clip I want to download to my computer. I read the directions (which I hate to do) on my recorder and it said I needed a IEEE 1394 cable. So I go buy one of those. Know I can't see to find where it plugs into my computer. I thought it was a USB port but i guess not. HELP!

Firewire is faster than USB or USB2, and is a completely different standard. You can purchase a firewire port (card) for you computer at Comp USA. It will have the drivers for 2000 and XP, usually along with a cable. You may want to check and see if you can purcahse a Firewire to USB adapter, there may be one (I don't know). Anyway, plugging in a Firewire card is not big deal, and only takes 10 to 15 minutes from start to finish. Make sure to take your cable along, so that you get the correct one.

It will take a PCI slot in your computer. You can get integrated cards that have other things, like usb2 ports, or a stand-alone card that is just firewire. My sound card has a firewire port on it.

Gene's reply is solid.
