: HELP,,neutrel safety switch HELP..
lemonice Jul 11th, 05, 8:56 PM i went to the drag races this sat with my 69 chevelle to get some base time slips before i drop the 468 in it. well the car has a b&m starshifter in it. and there is no neutrel safety switch in it. they gave me heck about it but let me run anyway. but i cant go back untill its fixed. which is a good thing. i got the correct 2 little micro switchs that come with the starshifter but dont know what wires go to them. this is not the factory neutrel safety switch i am talking about, its the one supplied with the b&m shifter. anybody hook one of these up before?? or have b&ms web site??? thanks lance
Jim Mac Jul 11th, 05, 9:30 PM don't you just run the purple wires from the factory switch to the bm micro switch? don't forget the other switch is a reverse light switch Jim
undee70ss Jul 11th, 05, 11:24 PM Instructions for your B&M Starshifter can be found here

For the neutral safety switch, the wires are 12g purple/white strip and a 12g purple. The reverse lamps should be 20g light green. Where the wires are will depend on how the car was originally equipped, ( auto, stick, floor shift, column shift)
lemonice Jul 12th, 05, 11:49 AM hey thanks alot for that diagram. i printed it for future. but i am still confused alittle. you see on those switches there is only 1 connector terminal. so how does that work? i read the instructions but it dont make sense to me. you have 2 wires for neutrel safey switch, but only 1 terminal to hook it to on the switch?????

Sounds like when you're in neutral or park, the switch would ground the circuit, if it's only got one terminal. If so, you would just add a wire from the START terminal on the key switch to the microswitch.

Nope, that would be a direct short :( :( :(

Then you must have the wrong kind of switch. Did they come with the shifter or did you get them elsewhere? Is the switch body made of metal or plastic? You need a switch with 2 terminals and its wired inline with the purple wire that goes to the starter "S" terminal.
Finally Jul 12th, 05, 1:42 PM I think he's referring to the picture not the actual switches. The other terminal on that type of micro switch should come out the bottom and then has a 90* bend in it. You just can't see it in the drawing. If you look at the actual switch I'm sure you'll find both terminals.
lemonice Jul 12th, 05, 4:15 PM well that shows how dumb i am, after i read the post above mine i went out and picked up those micro switches and sure enough there are 2 terminals on each of them. so now i just need to get on my back under the dash and try to find those wires. should have it fixed by tomorrow. thanks guys...
