I searched for info but could not find anything current. What are my options for materials under my carpeting to reduce exhaust noise level and radiant heat? Looking for $ info as well.
Thanks.

Ground Up has it. I'm sure that most suppliers sell it. Look for "carpet sound deadner".

In addition to the material you can buy at anyone of our Chevelle Suppliers I used the following. I used sun shades you would use inside your windshield to block out the sun, (silver ones), I just laid them on top of the sound material and used duct tape to tie them togeather, a friend of mine that works in a body shop put me on to this. Works great I think.

I found a lot of information on both this site and team camaro when I did this a couple months ago. There are a number of different sound deadeners out there for varying prices, I would imagine they all do the same job, but some (ie dynamat) are priced far more expensively then others. I ended up choosing a product called Edead (found at http://www.edesignaudio.com/category.php?type=damp). There are three kinds, V1, V1SE and V3. From the research I did on it, V3 works the best, but it was a little too messy for me (it is a liquid that you paint on the floor) I ended up getting the V1SE, which is just a thicker version of normal V1. It went on just like dynamat, or brown bead, or fatmat, or any of the others and made a HUGE difference in interior sound. I can still tell that the car is fairly loud from inside, but there is no drone or resonance, and the decibel level is way down (I meant to measure it before and after but didn't get around to it). With the windows up it is way quieter now. This is after using 80 sq ft on the floor (doubled up) all the way back to the rear package tray (behind the seats, floor, tranny hump, everything). There is also a single layer everywhere on the firewall that I could reach. Finally I also did a single layer on about 80% of the doors. The web store sells the V1SE for 1.50 sq ft (biggest thing that drew me to edead is that you buy it by the sq ft, not in bulk packs, you get just as much as you need), but in about 5 minutes of searching I found a coupon code that got me the V1SE for 1$ a sq ft. A way better deal then the cost of a 36 sq ft pack of dynamat, thats for sure. Anyways, as far as I could tell from my research, edead, fatmat and brown bead all do the same job as dynamat, and all are priced in the same ballpark relative to each other (not including dynamat), so I would consider getting one that ships somewhere close to you to save on the cost of shipping. But have a look at the various websites, I was originally going to go with fatmat, until I called there number 5 times and never got an answer, a very common problem (as well as really slow shipping) according to what I found. But do check out the search function here and at team camaro, there was a ton of information when I looked a couple months ago.

Hope this helps, it is well worth the effort, makes a very nice difference.

I did mine with the product from JC Whitney # sj017644x. $149. Very good stuff. It is the jute with the mylar backing (silver stuff) I got the big roll of it and have enough left for maybe 2 more cars. If you want to buy the rest of it let me know. Still in the box. I won't need it again for years.

I used JC Whitney's stuff too only I got the 24' roll and have enough left for another car. Good from -40 - 700 degrees. ZX017643R $79.95 It can be a hassle to cut it. I used those kitchen sissors to cut it. Razor knife was almost useless.

Thank you all for your input. It sounds to me like the various suggestions really work. And I really like the fact that they are cheaper than Dynamat ($5/ft)!
