I just put the hood back on my 68. The back of the hood, windshield side, sticks up over the fender line about 1/2 inch. I adjusted the hinges as best as I could, but still doesn't line up. I had to drill out the hinge holes to fit the hood. Question is, is it important to use the proper 68 hinge and hood? I think I have 68 hinges with a 69 hood, since the bolt hole distance was greater on the hood and I had to expand the rear hole on the hinge to get the hood to close and line up with the header panel.

i just got done doing this 68s had two style hinges early and later one sets the hood above the fender when opened the other sits below if you have a 69 hood you have to have 69 hinges the best way to get the back down is to loosen the front bolt on the hinge to the fender lift up on the hood tighten bolt this will drop the back of the hood hope this helps

I also have the same problem with the 69 hinges & hood on my '68 Convertible. I traced it down to the little rectangular bumpers on the hood. When I remove them, the hood sits correctly... Since, my car is in the shop I have not had time to fix it.

Tried the bumper trick from Theo. Made a difference already. I thought they were hitting. Now I will try to adjust the hinge itself again. Hopefully the combination will work. Thanks, both of you.

I am having the same problem with my 68, I've been screwing around with the hinges for months. I'm gonna try a couple of your guys' ideas, thanks

yeah the bumpers were hitting on mine also but why  they came from the factory and the hoods adjust so it's got to be an adjustment problem i'm trying lifting the rear bolt a little and then lifting the front will let you know what happens smile.gif

OK, here is the trick. Open the hood and loosen all the hinge to fender bolts, then push up on the hood all the way-like you are going to bend it. Have an assistant tighten all the bolts while are applying upward tension and when all is tight they will suck in and sit flush. Don't beleive me-that's OK, just try it anyway.

Dennis...you made a believer out of me. Except for the exacting lines of the hood and fender, that hepled line it all up pretty good. Still had to leave the bumpers off. When I put them back on, the hood was too high again. So off they came, and down the hood went.
