I have some thin stainless sheet metal that I want to put on the firewall.

I'd like to see pics and get advice on installing the stainless from those that have "been there and done that".

Thanks!
Steve

Hi I own a sheetmetal shop & build chevelles. I have put on metal to make smooth fire walls. The biggest mistake you can make is NOT smoothing out the firewall before you put metal on it.If you put the sheetmetal on the firewall in it's present condition (factory) you will get buldges & waves when you mount the metal. You have to fill in all the creases, dents etc. with filler (bondo) & sand smooth. Then you can add an epoxy to the smoothed surface & adhere the sheetmetal to the fire wall.I drill & pop rivet it to the factory sheetmetal along the cowl edges where you can't see the rivets. With the epoxy & rivets, it's there forever. You also have to take into consideratiion that you have to cut around the heater box, brake booster, fender mounts etc. Hope this helps! Mike

I wouldn't have known to do that. I appreciate the information. I was thinking about putting some sort of insulation in between the stainless and the firewall.

The driver's side is obviously a pain, and while I want to put stainless over there as well, I am not sure how far I want to take that side due to all of the ins and outs and access holes I would have to put in the stainless at just the right spot.

Any pics of stainless firewalls you have done?

Thanks!
Steve
