64 malibu, 283, 220hp heads, carter carb, headers, Holley manifold, headers, 2-spd powerglide, looking for tranny to bring it a bit more alive...th400r??...suggestions sought! thanks!

I'd suggest a TH350. It would give you another gear and would bolt right in. Imo, you do not need a TH400. Depending on funds, you may also want to consider an overdrive transmission (i.e., 200 R4). The overdrive capability would allow you to run a steeper gear in the rear helping to "wake up" your car.

350 Turbo. It's pretty much a bolt in and the difference in driveablty is had to believe.
