: Oil pressure gauge mounting, ideas?

I really want to put an oil pressure gauge in my 71 cause I don't trust the light and would like to keep a better eye on the car.

Should I use electric or mechanical?

I want a small 2 1/16" black face gauge for sure (a white face gauge in my interior would be out of place and look like a rice wannabe boost gauge or something), but I'm hung about where to mount it. Right now my best bet looks like a pillar pod I can get for $20.

This is an SS dash car and I'd rather it not be mounted below the dash for several reasons (hard to see, in way of reaching stereo wires, electric fan/ torque converter switches under dash already).

Does anyone have anything creative or any comment on the use of the A pillar pod?

clock doesn't work so i could put it in front of that but it would look very tacky

I think a-pillar pods are cool, they do reduce visability a little bit though when making left turns. That is where I would put it. I would also go with an electric gauge. The purists will say that the mechanical is more accurate but a good brand like autometer would be within + or - 3%, which is fine for the average joe.

Autometer sport comp gauges are a good design that I feel would go well with the chevelle dash.

One option would be to use a gage cup and mount it under the cowl. I have seen them mounted that way and it looks cool. I recomend a mechanical gage. Accuarcy is not so much the issue as a mechanical will let you know the second you loose oil pressure, electric gages take a couple seconds to give you the info, (watch the factory gage when you start the car). A gage cup can be mounted on the dash as well, and it looks more like something that would be used back in the day, but then I love oldskool!
