Hey guys! I wanted to start a new thread about paint and body work. I've seen alot of really nice paint jobs come out of the home garage lately it sure is tempting. :D I painted my old 69' Blazer before I sold it a few years ago in my garage I rented all the stuff from Homedepot, it didnt turn out so great but it was a 4 wheeler so no biggy.
Right now I'd just like to paint my passenger door, I replaced the skin a few months ago. Ive got a small air compressor, I dont have anything to breath with or a sprayer yet, and not sure of any little tricks and secrets to avoid dust, using fans, etc? Types of paints? BRands, good deals?

Wetting the floor down before painting is always good.Get hooked up with your local autobody/paint supply store-always good advice there.

Peanut, I'm going to build a portable paint booth for my driveway out of 2x2s and thick polyethylene film. It will also be used for sand blasting. I'll frame it out so I can put two large box fans (one at each end) for ventilation.

Kevin Kevin,
You will still need to wear a respirator when you paint or sand blast of course....... graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I did all my body work, priming and painting in my Garage. When you get ready to paint, clean clean clean, I grabbed my presure washer and sprayed the walls, ceiling really good. I put two box fans at the bottom of the garage door and closed it down near the top of them. I opened the side door and had a good draft going through the area. I think it came out pretty good, The only thing I would do different is clean clean again!!! This saves you alot of time when wet sanding and buffing the crap out after. Here is a few pics on my web site of the finished product to show it can be done. My 70 SS (http://mysite.verizon.net/res1mf8x/my70sschevelle/)

SAFETY FIRST

Don't forget about static electricity! Plastic sheeting is a great way to create some! Ground yourself and the part you're shooting. You don't wanna create a big fireball with those paint fumes.
