Well, i have concluded my first bit of bodywork by patching my fender behind the wheel. Thanks to everyone who answered my naive questions. My rocker panels are also really eaten up and while I was working under there It looked worse. I could remove the fender and eradicate rust on both sides. Has anyone ever removed a rocker panel? they appear to be welded on.
Thanks

They are welded on. Not familiar with the 72 but I am replacing both on my 67. It's quite a job. I was told by a guy one time that I needed to keep the doors on the car when I weld them on just to make sure the lines were kept straight. If you want to see what a replacement looks like for a 67 you can look at my site under the progress section. I have a couple pics there of mine. I havent installed them yet but you can get an ide what they look like. I think the ones foe a 68 up are boxed but not sure.
Hope this helps,
Steve
