I'm self teaching myself how to mig weld with a lincoln 135 plus. What is the correct way to spot weld with a mig. Ive tried a few times and was not sure how long to pull the trigger.

I have the same setup, and I have found that drilling small holes in the first layer of metal to be welded works well.

I just replaced a full quarter on my 69 and I used a flange/punch tool to put small holes along the flanges that were to be spot welded. I then used the mig welder to "fill" the holes. This process worked very well and with some very minor clean-up with an air grinder, you can't tell it has been replaced.

Hope this helps.

okay that sounds reasonable. How about when doing a butt weld like on a 3/4 quarter panel. Do you stick the wire between the gap of the two pieces and pull?

Butt welding is tricky for a newbie. A lap weld would be easier for your needs. This would be stitch welding on a 1/4 for you. Look for MartinSR posts on welding basics. Follow them to the letter,it will save headache and heartache.
