What year did GM start to paint their 454 motors Blue. I am looking at a 73 454 complete $500.00 and thought they didnt paint them blue untill 74 or 75. Just trying to nail down if its been apart.

FWIW, I know that in Corvettes, the engines were painted blue starting in 1977. My 73 454 car had an orange block.

Latest big block I've ever had was in a 74 Vette and it was orange.

I had an all original '74 454 that was orange out of a pick up.

I have a 78 454 out of a Chevy truck and I think when I got this engine in 1987 it was orange. I am not saying it was not painted again before I purchased the engine but I did not see any remnants of blue anywhere.

1976 was the last year for the Chevy Orange to be used; for 1977 they went with GM Corporate Blue.

I know the small blocks were painted blue but I really never remembered viewing a big block from that era mainly because they only came in trucks.
