: lifting the body?

Getting ready to pull the body off the frame on my 66 hardtop. I'm only doing this to box in my frame and strengthen it in some other places. The car already has new paint on it from the previous owner so I need to be very careful. My question is, can I leave the front fenders and core support attached and pull the body off as one whole piece? I will remove the hood and bumper first though to get some of the weight off. I plan on pulling it using the method I saw someone here on the board use. The seatbelt mount / hoist method. Thanks.

title scared me for a min....thought you were wanting a body lift so you could put the poor car on 24" spinners or something stupid like that

And I thought you were going for plastic surgery :D I would definitely take the front clip off, it's a pretty painless procedure to take it off in one piece. There are only 4 bolts (I believe) there to hold it to the body. If the clip start to sag, you might screw up the paint. I don't know how strong the fender mounts really are, but you might end up bending them as well.

24" spinners? that would look terrible. Besides, I already have the 44" super swampers on the way. :D Anyway, sounds like I'll be pulling the front clip off separately. Thanks for the advice.

Here are some pictures of how I lifted the body off. http://home.comcast.net/~larry.macdonald/

I jacked up the body high enough to slip the beams between the body and the frame. Then I dropped the body back onto the frame and jacked up the whole thing, until I could get the saw horses under the beams. I then dropped the frame.

I think this caused the least amount of twisting to the body. I don't think you could leave the front fenders attached to the frame, the fenders are bolted to the body.
