: '95 GMC Sierra - No brake lights
Hockey8720 Jun 29th, 05, 10:05 PM i have had an on and off problem of my brake lights not working in my sierra. usually it would go away right away, now i have no brake lights at all, ever.
i have checked all fuses, turn signals works, hazards work. it is not the pedal switch because the light on the trailer brake controller goes on when the brakes are pressed. i have unhooked the brake controller to see if that was the problem, still nothing.
Any ideas? i am stumped and would rather not have to take it to a mechanic since that would probably cost way too much.
Thanks
Danny

I had the same problem on my 94 Suburban but I FINALLY figured out what the problem was.
The white wire coming from the stop light switch, going into the connector to the steering column harness was part way backed out of it's connector placement.
I just had to push it back up in there with a small screwdriver.
Hope this helps
Now tell me where the 2nd neutral safety switch is located on a 93 Caddy Fleetwood. :)
Hockey8720 Jun 30th, 05, 12:20 AM do you mean the connector way up at the turn signal box? the white brake switch wire looks like it doesnt go through the big connector down underneath the steering column. it goes above it and i think i see another connector slightly above that but i dont see how i can get to it, then there is te large connector at the turn signal box, i tried for a while to get that thing off but no luck. i think i see the white wire in the back of that bundle, but cant reallt tell without getting it off. any more tips?
Dean Jun 30th, 05, 1:12 AM Must be different in 95.
Mine has a connector coming out of the coulum down low with all the wires as I recall.
Anyway the white wire connects along with others there.
Hockey8720 Jun 30th, 05, 2:20 PM Thanks for your help. ill take another look.
sinned Jun 30th, 05, 9:39 PM It still could be the brake light switch. I change a few every month. The switch has several circuts, one for the trailer brakes, one for vehicle lighting and another for the PCM(cruise control and TCC control).
Dean Jun 30th, 05, 10:25 PM My 94 has different switches for the brake lights and cruise control.

Are you sure? You have 2 brake switches? 1 is mounted to the pedal pivot with the clevis for the push rod...where is the other?
70 beater Jul 1st, 05, 2:28 AM Inside the tail light housing, check the plasic circuit board, especially around the center bulb ,for being burned up.I've changed out more than a dozen of those that are like that. That's the first thing I check one of those trucks now with any kind of tail light/signal/brake light problem.
John_Muha Jul 1st, 05, 2:28 AM Also on the mid 80s Olds. Two switches, one mounted above the other. One engaged the trans converter.

Check the housings, its a common problem and common enough that autozone carrys replacements.
sinned Jul 1st, 05, 9:39 AM I initially thought the same thing about the circut boards or even bulbs but to have all the lights including the CHMSL go out at the same time is odd, especially since they have all been going out intermittently for awile.
LeoP Jul 1st, 05, 10:08 AM and the chmsl circuit is before the rear stop lamps circuit.
