Hello,

A few weeks/days ago we discussed the differences between a tall deck big block and a short deck BB. I decided to look around for any BB 4-bolt that came along for my BB build up. I had a few people tell me that truck blocks are usually the best for high performance applications; although I can't remember if they too were 4 bolts. Anyway... I have no way of knowing if the heads match the engine. Supposedly my 396 engine is out of a 68 SS car -- this is according to the previous owner of my car. The first time in 5 years that I pulled off my valves covers was today. When I examined the heads I mysterously they said GM TRUCK. Is it possible that the whole engine is a truck engine,... and may just be a 4 bolt. I don't know if truck heads only fit on a truck block. Anyway,... I have posted the pictures below for you guys to take a look and take a crack at it. Hopefully i can save some time and money,... wouldn't that be nice!

If you do a search on the web for Big Blocks, you'll probably find a couple of sites that will give you casting numbers for heads and their application along with block casting numbers and you also probably have a date code. You might try MorTec. If that a 3917219 head it looks to be from a 68-85, 366 or 427 Truck engine. Good luck

I did a search on google and found the same thing,... 366T / 427T oval port heads. I think I'm going to get the block casting number next and run that

thanks,...

There should be a date code on the heads. And both casting number and date code on the block plus an engine assembly and application code along with a vin on the block.
