on my 66 chevelle, imy dash lights do not come on when i cut my headlights on but if i turn on my dome light the dash lights come on. what may be my problem, i ahve posted a different thread on how to get the dash gauge assy down without damage, any suggestions are really appreciated! god bless and thank you

Are the tail lights (running) working normally? The tail light circuit runs the dash lights.

yes, all of my tail/running lights, turn signals ect work fine...i assume the problem would be in the dash harness system somewhere, any help is greatly appreciated!

If you use a test light or meter:
See if there is power to both sides of the lamp fuse with the switch on. I think this fuse is the 4th one from the top.
OR
Turn the switch on and measure one of the dash lamp sockets.
Problem sorta sounds like a poor dash ground but guessing at this point.

The 66 has the rotating headlight switch correct? Turn it to dim or brighten dashlights, turn all the way counter-clockwise(?) to turn on dome light. Is the rheostat in the switch just dirty or shot?

wonderful some of this info has gotta help. i will start checking tonight. could be the light switch itself as it does have the rotating control for the dimming of the dash lighting, but i didnt think that if you turn on the dome light the dash lights shouldnt come on. so much help from everybody is a blessing and everyone is very kind for their help, it is much appreciated.
