I am finishing building another motor for my 70, a month ago I had a cam flatten two lobes. A friend stopped by Sunday while I was in my shop and told me I had better put a cam button in. I thought that was for rollers only. Please advise me, this motor is .488 lift (hyd.), 350 ,.060 over , gm heads ,
10 to 1 , nothing wild , this is a show car in Dallas not a drag car. Thanks all, Ken

Don't need it for a flat tappet cam, as the lobes are ground with a taper that will hold the cam to the rear while it's turning. If you really feel the need for one, buy the solid one, as the roller ones cost more, and make a bigger mess when they come apart.

Well, the standard answer is NO you don't need to have a button on a Hydro Cam..With that said, I caught a flat cam before it did any serious damage because I put one in on my motor, it started tapping on the timing cover shortly after break-in..
