: Removing back glass and mouldings.

I popped the rear window mouldings off yesterday in preparation for removing the back glass. I noticed that some of the little buttons that hold the moulding clips in place have rusted out. Is there any trick to reinstalling the clips without the buttons? Sheetmetal screws maybe? Or is there some sort of repair kit out there?

I used small stainless steel sheetmetal screws. Size the heads the same dia as the existing buttons.

I've used small aluminum pop rivets many times to anchor the clips.

i did the same thing, i used rivets in the original holes and it worked fine. as far as removing the glass. a guitar string works well to cut through the seal and loosen the window, mine was already loose so i just pushed it out very carefully. i also tinted it while it was out worked real nice. hope this helps.JIMK

I put in a call to Southwestern Classic Chevy in Arlington today, and they carry the studs and clips, but are ZERO stock right now! There must be a lot of this going around. Thanks guys.

There is a special tool for this that resemble a pair of pliers with flat sheetmetal hooks on the ends of the two halves anr turned inward. You locat the clips, insert the flat hooks under the moulding, and squeeze the handle. This forces the clip to pull away from the moulding. It takes a little practice.

I have no idea if this is normal for all 69's, but when I recently removed my windows, I noticed that there were two different kinds of clips used. There is the type that slides over to lock in place, and therefore must slide the other way to release. The other kind pushes down and snaps in place and is smaller in size. This kind apparently cannot be released with the tool. I merely used very thin screwdrivers to work the trim loose and it worked with no damage at all.
