: Mods to son's Powerwheels Jeep
frankf72malibu Jun 25th, 05, 9:27 PM I have 2 kids (5 1/2 YO son and 3 YO daughter). They both love the Chevelles we have and how loud they are. They especially like it when I burn a little rubber. My son has asked me to make things for or modify his Jeep. We started out with him wanting a trailer. We made one and it has been around for awhile. So long that the back piece came off but he liked it that way. We did a silly flame job and wrote stuff on it. We then added a little structural support so the back plastic could pull the trailer. Then he was riding it and I was holding the rollbars and he took off. He popped a wheelie and actually drove a few feet that way. So we do that quite often now. Just today he shows me the cardboard tube he cut into 2 pieces and then wrapped with construction paper at daycare. He told me it was his exhaust. Then he asked if we could make metal exhaust. We cut off two lengths of fence pole and made it happen. He even wanted them spaced apart "just like the Chevelle." I am thrilled that my kids enjoy the car and my son really loves to tinker on stuff. I hope that I can continue to nurture this so when he gets older he knows more than the average kid when it comes to cars. I have already informed the wife that when our kids turn 14 they get to pick a car (inexpensive that needs work) and then they will help me fix it up over the 2 years until they are 16.
I just thought you all might enjoy some pictures of my Son's ride.

BowtieAaron Jun 25th, 05, 9:47 PM i dont have it anymore :( i do still have the batteries and the motors though.
i upgraded... i got a chevelle, and a 4wheeler. i actually went to go look at a real jeep last night, but it wasnt what the kid told me it was. he said it was a wrangler, instead it was a wangoneer. i was po'ed.
but yeah i will upgrade to a real jeep probably this summer. or i might buy a used power wheels jeep, and do some nice mods to it. :)

bulb122 Jun 26th, 05, 9:44 AM That thing's pretty sweet! My buddy modified one too.... with a 12v battery out of a garden tractor. Really gave it a boost! So when your son gets the need for speed... give em a big block!
69boo307 Jun 26th, 05, 10:09 AM that's a pretty big exhaust, I bet you're killing the low end torque! ;)
ssal396 Jun 26th, 05, 11:04 AM Thats WAY cool, glad your son is following in your footsteps  ..

Well, those are the resonators. The rest of the system is built for torque...

What mods did he have to make? I would love to "tweak" this. You know, if they built them a little stronger a 205 pound man could have fun these too.

bulb122 Jun 27th, 05, 10:05 PM I'll have to talk to him sometime to get all the details. It wasn't much.... Mostly it had bad batteries, so he repalced them with a battery from a riding mower. I think he might have replaced the foot switches with somthing else, as I remember industrial palm button looking switches that definately didn't come with the Jeep when it was new.
I'll let you know if I get all the details :)
