: HOOSIER Quick Time PRO TIRE PRESSURE??
Steves65 Jun 24th, 05, 9:04 PM Can anyone give me an idea on tire pressure to run in HOOSIER QTP's. I am not running a tube in them. Car weighs 3620 with me in it.
Best run on Drag Radials was 12.84 with a 1.96 60 ft time.
I plan to run tomorrow night so I was looking for advice. Thanks!
Steve
Bob West Jun 24th, 05, 10:00 PM What size tires? what size rims? I'd start at 20 and go down 1-2 psi at a time.

You know Bob this must be "Opposite Day" I'd say start at 16 and go up 1 to 2 psi until you spin....LOL...LOL.....

Hey Brandon !!!! I know, I know..
Rons70SS Jun 24th, 05, 11:06 PM I run 29x13.5x15 QTP's on 15x10 rwheels On my 70' at 3428 lbs I have the best 60 fts. running 14 lbs in the left and 14.5 in the right
Bob West Jun 24th, 05, 11:10 PM Hey Ron, did you have to hammer on the inner fender wells to get those to fit? or mini tubbed?
Rons70SS Jun 24th, 05, 11:17 PM yes I did have to do a little clearancing not much though just had to hammer in the inner wheel well and a little on the frame its a tight fit they still rub a little when i make a tight turn at speed.
Steves65 Jun 25th, 05, 1:06 AM Thanks everyone... my 1st guess was 15 lbs so I will work somewhere in that ballpark. The tires are mounted on a 16X8 Rim, OD is 26.2
So I shouldn't go any lower than 15 or 16 lbs correct?
broke Jun 25th, 05, 1:21 AM I drive around on 20psi and found that 16psi hooks best for me.
Bob West Jun 25th, 05, 8:09 AM With a heavy car and a fairly small tire, I wouldnt go any lower than 15psi, it will just make your car more squirrely on the big end. I like the Hoosier radial slicks, but they sure are pricey. 30 x9 x15's, 200 a pop :( I run 20 psi in them at 4000 lbs.

I am hoping you will Start in that area....................
The higher the pressure you run, the more stability you have, less stress on the sidewall which is what will go away First on a HQTP (before your tread is gone)...And usually more mph you will have.
I am on my 9th set of QTP's over 5 years.
I also agree with not going below 15 as Bob said...pressures that work best are typically directly related to the weight of the vehicle and how much weight transfer you get....so inherently it will take careful experimentation to determine Your optimum pressure which could be anywhere from 15 to 22 pounds.
