: Manifold fit ?? (and resultant idle problems)

The thread that Chris started on engine vac. brought up a thought that I should look into something. I am running a Ede Perf 2-0 that has never really sat right on the motor. [Don't know the history of the motor by the way - block was never decked unitl I got it, can't say the same about the heads though, we did a .008 clean up cut, but after unshrouding and polishing the chambers the heads wound up at 104CC (290's)].

Point is, the Summit HEI I have (bought new) never fit all the way down on the intake. I have had to run a phenolic spacer and a gasket just to get the dist in contact with the intake and even then is just barely touches and I do not have a lot of engagement of the distributor in the hole in the manifold. I am wondering if I have an internal manifold leak all along due to the intake sitting too low that combined with the eratic distributor timing I have is causing the lack luster performance and poor idle quality. Note - currently have the blue Felpro's in there. Tried the printoseal, but that was a worse fit.

May have been discussed before, but has anyone ran into this, or has anyone ever tried doubling up the intake gaskets to bring the intake up to where it should be. I am thinking maybe 2 of the Mr Gasket composition types may work. I know this is done in industrial applications on a frequent basis.

PS - I still have the 502 on the stand, just don't have the ambition (and interest) in changing everything out to make it work right. If this works out as something as silly as an intake leak all this time - well I will feel rather stupid.

i cant really offer any advice as to how to correct the problem since ive never had an engine that was that far off, im sure that Mike will know though.

but check this post out, specifically this reply

While the engine is running remove the breather from one valve cover and put your hand over it,on the other valve cover hold a piece of paper over the hole,if it sucks against the hole your intake is most likely leaking on the inside.

Thanks for the tip.

Regarding the fight, will have to catch the hightlights on ESPN. Will be o nthe run all day tomorrow and not home tom. night. I do like what he has done though. Now if you want to talk an event to attend - a little off topic but- the ring card girls that they have in AC, rival anything you may have seen or dreamed about anywhere! Was at a trade show at AC Converntion Center, several of the vendors there hired ring card girls (in costume) to work their booths - WOOOOOWWWWW!

interesting

you know, except for a handfull of fighters today i think the ring card girls would make for better fights than a lot of the bums out there now. which is pretty pathetic.

Gatti is definitely no Marciano, but ill tell you all of his fights are pretty exciting.

tell me something, does Larry Merchant annoy you as much as he annoys me(i freakin hate him!!)?? :D

didnt mean to sidetrack your post, but i figured youd be interested seeing he has a vowel on the end of his name. ;)
