On my 77 Monte at the factory it looks like the person that was spraying sealer on the firewall couldn't wait for his shift to end, it's everywhere. Big globs of rubbery tough stuff.

What would be the best method of removal? Or is scraping & laquer thinner about it? It's some tough shxx. graemlins/clonk.gif

Thanks

I went through removing a lot of seam sealer and other crap on the car I'm restoring that seemed really excessive in spots but at least I think it made my car live longer.
I first started with a stiff putty knife to get the bulk of it off and then I had good luck using the small 2-3" wire wheels chucked into my cordless reversible drill. I would try that and see how it comes off but wear eye protection !!!!.
If it is a seam sealer, you can reapply new material after the old stuff is removed and now that you have the time, you can apply as much or as little as needed and make it look better that how it was by the guy on the assembly line.

Its not a seem sealer it's more of a rubber like stuff.
I think it was supposed to be for sealing around anything that comes though the firewall.

Be sure to put down a good coat or two of primer before applying any seam sealers, I know of no seamsealers available for direct to metal application. Use a good urethane or a two component sealer, the oldschool airdry stuff is junk compared compared to what is currently available.

For heavy gobs use a putty knife heated with a propane torch, it'll cut the sealer off like butter. Then follow up with a wire brush or klean and strip disc, or a bristle(sp?) disk
