Am looking for the piece of metal that goes across the back of the car. The bolts for the bumper go thru it.I am replacing the trunk floor and this piece is rusted out. Does anyone make an aftermarket part or do I need to find a donor in good shape? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank-you, Rex

If i remember correctly (This question was posted a month or so ago)
No one makes repops of that part.
I remember that the guy wanted to replace the whole panel there.. He wanted to cut it out and use one from a donor car.
Someone here told him not to do that because this part is holding the qrt. panels together and if he is cut it, they will drop slightly and it would be a big deal to aligned them again.
The advice was to cut only the rusted parts and use the donor car.. But not to cut the whole panel.

Yes i did it and so did Sevt_chevelle.Not fun.You need to get one from a donor. Its not an easy job.I would say get the piece and cut out and weld in only what you need and dont change the whole panel.

Rex, I did one of those swaps what a night mare, never again. My panel was completely destryoed because of some idiot with a saw and the dream of wheel tubs. That panel consists of two pieces, the first is the panel that the rear bumper bolts too, next is the panel that the quarters weld too and in turn this piece welds on top of the rear bumper panel. I had to piece together both the top and bottom panels from different cars, a very hard swap to do.
My advice is if only one of those panels is rusted replace only that panel. And by all meens if you have to replace both, get one that is rust free so you wont have to piece it together.
If your car is that rusted you will more then likey need quarters and wheel wells. Just make sure everything is solid and well supported or it will drop. I even had my car braced with angle iron to help it from dropping but it did anyway. The rear of the car got so out of whack I had to first get my rear bumper straigtened before I could weld anything together to check the lines. But my car was pretty rusty and had nothing much to go by, but its a good idea to have that rear bumper straightened before you weld.
If it needs quarters and wheel wells, I would replace them first and get everything welded up, get back some rigidness in the car and then replace that rear panel.
I do have some pics of that rear panel swap on my link and more Ive yet to add but check them out. Even feel free to email if you want and Ill give a more indeep detail on how I did it. But carefully of what you cut out, I'll guarentee you you will find new words that go with the F word, and I dont mean Ford.
Have a good one...Eric
