I currently have 69 El Camino with a 350 original motor. I was going to pull it out and replace it with another small block. I am looking for something that gives off good horsepower and has a noticible idle. Any recommendations on motors they you have installed or just driven a car with one in it would be greatly appreciated.

Can't beat a 406 if you want to use a production block. It will make more horsepower and torque than a 383(with same compression ratio, heads etc.) The only thing about the 400 blocks, you should have a machinist check it out, and you need steam holes drilled in the heads if you want it to be streetable(under 3000 rpms). Nothing like the off idle torque of a bigger inch mouse. If you are really serious, check into the Dart or Motown blocks. Check with Wolfplace. He is very knowledgable on just about everything.
