I have a 1970 SS with body color of Black
Cherry(paint code 78)with a black vinyl top.
What color paint stripes would be correct.
I've seen both white and black used.
Thanks,Paul

I think either could have been ordered. I'm not certain, but your cowl tag might tell you what was on it originally. Try this question in the Restoration Corner and you might get a better answer.
FWIW, I don't think it would look right with anything other than black stripes, (considering that it already has a black vinyl top).

I agree, especialy if the interior is also black. Now, i've seen some Black cherry SS's that had black interior with white stripes and they looked sweet, but they werent vinyl top cars. Stripes should match the top, IMO, for continuity if nothing else.

Most of the ones I've seen were white, the best choice in my opinion.
Might as well not put any stripes if you use the same color as the car. The contrasting colors make the best look I think.
But as others say it's your car, paint them red with pink polka dots if thats what you want.
A friend of mine bought a new SS454 Motion Perf. 70 that came with the black top, interior, body and white stripes. Looked great and was scary fast too.

The SS stripes, when applied to Black Cherry, were only available in White.
Black was not possible.
Some paint colors were considered to dark for the black colored stripes. They were Fathom Blue,Forest Green,Black Cherry and Tuxedo black.
It didn't matter what color the vinyl top or Convert.top was.
And Classic white and Shadow grey would only get Black stripes as well.White was not possible for them.
