So after boiling and recoating my tank I decided to do the job right and put a new sending unit in it. I've had my suspicions that the reading was wrong but today was the first time I filled the tank to check. Sure enough, it's only reading a little less than 3/4 tank. What can I do to fix this?

i know this sounds funny... but did you put the sending unit in upside down?? It would cause the bad reading... if not check the ground on the sending unit... if not that then check the gauge in the dash. Hope this helps...

I actually thought about that but as I drive the car the gas guage reads that it's empyting...if it were upside down it would be filling :) . I feel like I could pull the the sending unit and bend the float post and the tube but I wanted to see if there was something else I could check before ruining my brand new sending unit.

What gas gauge are you using? Stock, aftermarket??? I only ask because I had this issue and the previous owner had a F*rd gauge in mine.

As far as I can tell I have the stock SS fuel gauge. It's the one with the fuel, amp meter, thermostat and oil pressure all in the guage. Also, it was working just fine with the old sending unit which, quite honestly, judging by the look of it must have been the original.

--rO Yr of car??? This is for 65 and up.
You need to check it with a OHM meter before bending anything. With the float held full it should be 90+ohms. If its less than that, bending anything won't help.

Yup...it's a 65. I'm not sure how to do the test you mention above...electrical is my weak spot.
