Last year, while driving down the freeway I had an engine fire. Did about $200 damage under the hood, no paint damage.
I replaced the plug wires, cap, shifter cable and fixed the damaged wiring. I also replaced the electrical plug on the transmission that controls the lock-up.
The kick down cable got burnt but seems to be working fine, meaning that it returns freely when I throttle it by hand.
Problem is that it doesn’t want to shift until I put a few miles on the transmission and when it does shift it hits hard. It doesn’t want to got into overdrive ‘till I hit about 60mph after I back off the gas at which time it seems to operate normally.
This is during manual shiffing or when left in drive. If I take off in OD when the trans is cold, it acts like a trans low on fluid.
The problem surfaced after the fire.
I will replace the kick down cable and check the "lock-up" wire for any bare spots or indications of shorting.
Trans: Built 4L60, 2400 stall, B&M trans cooler.
