I tried Evercoats newer polyester primer this week, Featherfill G2 (Generation 2) and am very pleased with it's performance so far. My cost was $50.25 per gallon which is very economical. Available in grey, nuetral and black. All of the metal work was done on my current project with two coats of epoxy down. I scuffed the epoxy and applied the complete gallon of G2 and it sprayed nice for a polyester. Next day guidecoated the whole car and longboarded with 180 grit dry. All imperfections were cut out with plenty of primer left so I guidecoated her again and cut the 180 grit scratches out with 320. Tomorrow I'll apply two coats of urethane primer and let her sit while I finish up the jambs. Evercoat says the primer is compatible with self etching primer which is something new for a polyester. So far I'm impressed, plenty of build, economical, sprays well and sands good. Another bonus is no shrinkage. I'm sure I could just final sand with 600 and apply a sealer but I feel more comfortable applying a suggested undercoat for the paint system I'll be applying so it will be reprimed tomorrow. The black will be ideal for underbody and suspension work, applied over a black epoxy and sealed with a black epoxy before chasis black should make future rock chips less noticeable. Anybody else here using this stuff? Sure is a time saver in my opinion. Bob

Hi Eric, I have a 2.0 tip in my primer gun, the stuff sprays nice, much better than the Sikkens Polysurfacer and Clausen Zcoat I tried awhile back. I just noticed a Chevelle in your sanding block picture, must be yours? Looks like new sheetmetal- sweet graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Yep,

I used it the other day. 2.0 tip in the gun also. Seems to work just like the "old" stuff with the exception of the little note on the label that says compatible with 1k and 2k metal etch primers.

all's good smile.gif

Pretty much just waiting its turn, finally bolted on a NOS CI hood and some goodmark fenders. Hopefully this summer I get on it

Ive got to give this G2 a shot, hopefully my Sata 1.7 will work if not I guess it gives me a good reason to buy a new toy.

I really like the etch primer part since I kinda pretty much gave up on DPLF, nothing like the ole DP

Hi Bob and Eric..... A quick question (and yes, I am still alive, HAHA).... I want to go ahead and shoot my trunk and hood Cortez silver. Can I do this and shoot the dark blue stripes later or do I need to shoot my dark blue for the stripes first, then shoot my Cortez silver. I have not ordered the stripe template kit yet.
Good info on that Evercoat BTW graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Texas 70, It would be best to have the decklid mounted and aligned on the car if the stripes run off into the filler panel before the window, at least for the masking operation to make sure the stripes line up. The maincolor is usually applied first followed by masking then stripe color, then clear over the complete panel. You could do the silver first and clear but applying the stripe color over fresh clear is sometimes a risky deal because the basecoat may cause lifting problems. If I remember right you were using Omni color, the Omni products generally don't lift and I've done major graphics applied over 2day old Omni clear without any problems. Any time you apply color over fresh clear make sure you put thin coats on with plenty of flash time between coats-the longer it stays wet the more chance it will lift. When masking on the silver make darn sure your hands are very clean--fingerprints etc. show up very well on light colors and wouldn't look very good trapped under clear. A midcoat clear like dbu500 or dbc500 applied over the silver basecoat makes cleaning easy before clear application, it makes a clear protectant surface over the metalics. I've used dbu500, dbc500 and Global D895 midcoat clears over Omni basecoats and also Dupont basecoats without having problems. In fact some of my airbrush & graphics have been a combination of colors from the Omni line, Deltron, Global and Dupont Chroma premier followed with a coat of Dbc500 or D895 before topcoatclear and I've never had a problem with compatability.
