I have a 67 Chevelle with bad rust on the back window lower and sides. The rear window to trunk filler panel is on order
but part of the corners and up the inside of the wing or fin is rusted bad with pits. Should I fab. a peice for that? Do I
need to cut out all the old part or can I weld or glue in the new part(skin)? The roof is pitted above the window too. Any
suggestion to stop that rust before filling? Can you paint with POR15 sand and fill over? Sorry for all the question but as
you can tell I don't know what I'm doing.
Thanks, Carl

Is your car just pitted, or rusted so bad there is no metal in the corners.
I'm not a body man(hopfully one will chime in) but you will have to take it down to bare metal. Then you could fill it correctly.
Check out my simular post from a few days ago. If you can find out if the rear section is the same as a 67 4dr, I could possibly get you some corners, or maybe even the whole rear window section from a donar car at the junk yard. Cal

Well CARL67, guess what? I have the same situation. These cars were prone to that from lack of good drainage I guess. I have purchased the same trunk filler pan that I'll have to mig in when the weather breaks (due to other projects) I have looked around and couldnt find the side pieces that your talking about, so I'll attempt to make them. they're not too large a piece, so I will probably be willing to try a few times till I get them right. I even thought about a contour gage to help. I have watched these cars wither away in the salvage yards over the years, so if you can find "good ones" snag them. I did just buy a new Goodmark full quarter and it has the trunk area up the side. You might want to check yours as well,.... throughly. The retaining pins for the chrome can be purchased from what I've read. But I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Good luck! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks for your help. Yes the corners are bad. I've checked in my part of the world and can't find corner parts. the top window part is okay. If I can't find them I'll try to make them. Seems like this is a big problem and someone should make them.
Thanks again, Carl

Mine had rust as well, not as bad as yours. When we repaired the rust I installed drains in both corners of the rear window channel. It amouts to a tube brazed into the channel and exstends to the wheel house and dumps the water on the tire. Works great.

No pictures. It's not hard to do. I just used copper flex line, 3/8, ran it in to the corners where we had to put new metal, then brazed it in. The other end goes through a hole in the wheel house and I used putty to seal that. I did this over 10 years ago and never had a problem since. I wish I could say the same for the quarters I paid to have done by a "professional".
