I have a 71' elCamino and I know a guy who says he can get me one for $100-$150. Is that a good price?

That's not a bad price. These are still being produced so they are pretty much available thru any glass shop. The only hard-to-find ones are the non-tinted ones. Most 70 to 72 Chevelles came with the Soft-Ray tinted glass, but if you had a low optioned car it may have had clear glass (like mine). Clear glass is not being reproduced, so the only way to get it is to find used stuff. I know of guys who have bought entire parts cars just to get the non-tinted glass. If your car came with A/C then it had to have tinted glass as that's the only way GM would make them. Tinted glass supposedly made the A/C's job easier.

sounds about right for wholesale???? A local glass co. quoted me 160.00 for the front glass for the 69. I found a guy who works for a glass company on my sons baseball team and he said he could get me one for His cost at $60.00

Bob, Just an FYI, I bought a 72 Lemans that had a tinted windshield only, new from the Dealer back in November of 71 the rest of the glass was clear. Maybe just a Pontiac thing.

Just bought a replacement windshield for my 69 Malibu from Safelite. I actually bought a 70, because I wanted the built in antenna. They wanted $160 installed, but were planning on using the new goo to install, instead of the butyl tape. They knocked off $40 to not install, so I got it for $120. My son and I installed it in about an hour, quality is great and chrome trim fits it perfect. Here in Denver, windshields lifespan is about 2-3 years (due to the sand they put on the road), so I've replaced a few windshields on my regular cars over the years. The Chevelle windshield was less than any of the others I have replaced.

That was possible on a Chevelle too Leo. I have a 1970 dealer's sales manual and it shows an option listing for tinted windshield (only) and another listing for tinted glass (all).
