Hey guys, when I retreived my car from the infamous body shop I never did get my rear valance back. Thought that it was not that big of a deal since I thought I could easily replace it and it had some surface rust and a bend in it anyway. Went to Carlisle today thinking one of the many venders there would have one. Surprise. no one had a 71-72 valance. I was told by the ground up guy that they are out of production and the Ausley (sp?) guy says that a 71-72 will fit the 70 (he sold his last 71-72 an hour before I got there of course) but the 70 will not fit on a 71-72????? what????? he had the 70 but swore it would not fit so I didn't buy it.

give me the straight up here guys???? are they out of production, will a 70 work, even if I have to modify a little, if they are of production anyone have one in good shape laying around????? southern Cal guys????

as usual, thanks guys

I have nice one I took off my 72. I'd like to get $25 for it and can send digital pics if interested.

Hey Professor,
Yes they finally have been discontinued, but you can still get one from a dealer in Minnesota called Friendly Chevrolet for 58.99. The part number for a 72 rear valance is 3982401. Their web site is http://www.friendlychev.com/friendlychev/parts.html Don't wait too long! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm confused, the original parts group lists a 70 through 72 part... what is the difference between the 70 and 71/2 version of the panel?

Professor, its true that the rear valance panels are different for a 70 and 71-72. I have both a 70 and 72 rear bumper with the right valance and tried to swap the valances to the different bumpers. The 71-72 valance doesnt fit a 70 bumper and vice versa. 71-72 have more of a curve towards the ends where the 70 valance is flatter. And so both panels carry a different GM part number...Eric

Professor,
The '71-'72 has a curve as you go in from the outside towards the center of the valance and the '70 is flatter. That's as best as I can explain it. Only know am I able to "see" the differences with looking at plenty of swap meet valances over the years.

Ok, thanks guys, someone should give everyone a heads up on the Original Parts group catalog. It list the valance as a 70, though 72 unit. I compared the rear bumpers, off right now, on my 72 with those on my 70 and it makes sense that the 70 would have a different curve since the bumpers themselves are very different in basic shape. Fortunately one of you guys E-mailed me and offered to sell me a spare valance he has so that worked out great.

Thanks again. Another Team Chevelle save!!!!!
