I bought a set of 17x8 with 4" b/s TT's from a friend. The tires are 255/45/17's and the fit in the rear is great...and look good as well. The fronts however stick out a bit on top and they hit the front lower corner of the fender. I was able to sell off two. Looking for some real life experience as to the front rim and tire size I should use. The tire is a Sumtimoto (sp).

The front is a bit lower than stock with a coil cut from the springs. Pic Below.

Its a 67 12 bolt. My rears fit great with the 4" b/s. The tires fill up the wheel well and look centered from the rear.

Lots of 67's with 17's in the Tire & Wheel Database,Rob. Did you start there?

Rob,

I run 17x8" Boyds with 245-45/17 Falken tires on all four corners of my '67 which also has Hotchkis lowering springs installed.
No tire rubbing problems whats so ever! Tons of room.
Wondering if the 255s are just a little too big??

Bill,
What your b/s on those Boyds. The diff in 255/245 is only about 4.5mm of profile. I'm thinking the 4.75 b/s is what I need...or go with a 7 inch front w/ a 4" b/s. I'd like to stay with the 8 inch front and a 245 tire but just want to be sure it fits.

The database list other years with 7 in the front w/ 4" b/s...running a 245 tire. However the 8's would look better IMO.

Clint,
I couldn't find any 66 or 67 w/ 17's in the database. Its a pain to read but I went through 3x and only found 2 w/18's. Maybe I'm missing it, but could use some 'real life' interactive help.

If I recall correctly, the Boyds have a 4.5" BS.

I run 255-45-17s all the way around on TT IIs all 8 inches wide with 5 1/4 backspacing. Needed a little more backspacing when changing over the front to tall spindles and Global West stuff. They are tucked in pretty good, but clear everything in front and rear no matter how hard I take the car through the curves! I like the tucked under look, so you could probably be fine with 4 3/4 backspace, but I would personally not recommend any lesser backspacing on my setup. Hope this helps a little.

You do know that a 17x9.5 wheel is way too narrow for a 315,,right? Hate to see someone doing something potentially unsafe and it's kinda hard on the tires, too. You would be better served by a 285/40/17 or something smaller.
Not trying to be a wise-ass but am just concerned.

Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone think that the 17x8 with 4.75 inch b/s is too much for the front. They don't have them in 4.5.

i am not for sure on the 4.75 backspacing i would guess it would work out. i would just have the wheels made with the backspacing you need. give these guys a call it is where i got mine they will treat you right.

Thats cool for you to be looking out for me . I have been running them that way for almost 2 years and have had no probs. and i did the hot rod power tour last year. They as you really should have a 10'' rim but they dont make them in 10'' yet, thanks for your input ......

4.75" backspacing will work fine.

Hey Rob,

This is what I have on the front of my 66:

17X8 American Racing TT II's with 4" backspacing and a 245/45 tire. They worked fine.... until I lowered it an inch. The top inner fender bolt along with the crimped ridges on the adjacent bolts (you'll know what I mean if you feel under the fender) rubbed a bit on bumps. I ground down the crimped ridges & replaced the top bolt with a button head bolt. Seems OK now but I have not gone over any speed bumps with passengers since the modification.
